SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating after a string of shootings on Bay Area freeways.

Thursday's shooting was just one in a string of 80 shootings on Bay Area freeways since late 2015 that has a growing number of people concerned.

The 17-year-old victim of Thursday night's shooting in San Jose was shot in the back and the face. The news of his shooting drew strong reactions Friday morning from drivers.

"I'm a teacher. That's scary. I love my kids so it is really upsetting," motorist Virginia Ingelfinger said.

There is also a bit of fear now among drivers as they think about another car pulling up next to them and shooting, which is what happened around 7 p.m. Thursday on northbound Highway 101 near Story Road.

"It does make me think twice about how I drive don't want to irritate anyone doesn't seem right," motorist Octavia Devine said.

CHP officers say that's a good plan.

"You never know who you are dealing with. No life is worth it," CHP Officer Ryan Fifielt said.
