SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A driver caused a messy situation after he crashed into a porta-potty on Folsom Street in San Francisco on Saturday.

No one was hurt in the accident. Crews have cleaned up the mess, but some of the smell still lingers in the air.

"So we just heard a big old bam," witness Yesenia Jimenez said.

Jimenez heard the crash on Folsom Street and knew something was wrong.

"All of a sudden we came running outside and I look and say 'oh my god,"' Jiminez said.

The driver of a Nissan Ultima smashed right into a San Francisco construction zone, taking out a giant orange arrow sign and a porta-potty.

Luckily, work crews were not there at the time, but the chain reaction smashed up three cars parked on Folsom Street, including Jiminez' sedan.

"I was like seriously? We just got the car fixed. It's almost Mother's Day and this is how were celebrating it?" Jiminez said.

Witnesses told police the driver tried to leave the scene, but Mercy Jimenez managed to stop him.

"No you can't leave. We got to work this out," Mercy said.

The driver did not speak English, but told police he was tired.

"So he fell asleep and drifted to the other side," San Francisco Police Department Sgt. Mario Molina said.

He was cited for not having a driver's license or insurance and could face reckless driving charges.

While all this was going on, the smelly contents of the porta-potty flowed down the street, creating a health hazard.

"It stinks bad," Jimenez said.

The sidewalks were closed until city crews could clean up the mess.
