East Bay homeowners learn how to conserve water during drought

SAN LORENZO, Calif. (KGO) -- Some East Bay homeowners are learning how to do their part to save water during the drought in California.

Homeowners at San Lorenzo Village made their lawns more drought-resistant on Saturday.

Landscapers, nursery and irrigation specialists showed them some plants that aren't too thirsty, but still look good and survive in our climate.

They also learned about sheet mulching their lawns, which saves water and can qualify homeowners for a rebate. "Which is a really simple process of just layering compost, cardboard and mulch on top of your soil and your lawn, and then planting right into it," Stopwaste spokesperson Jeanne Nader said.
