Groups targeted by Donald Trump speak out about campaign promises

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Donald Trump doesn't take office until January 20, but groups he has targeted during the campaign say they are resolved to make it difficult for him to deliver on his campaign promises.

Candidates make promises and so did Trump. However, opposition is already surfacing that make it difficult for him to deliver on some of them.

He is adamant about building the wall, a way to block undocumented immigrants from Mexico.

Priya Murthy is policy director at the immigration group Siren. "We can fight back and stop that, and we can turn things around so that the country can hopefully follow California's lead in being a welcoming and inclusive space that we know this country should be," Murthy said.

A ban on Muslims from entering the US was another promise.

Zahra Billoo is Bay Area executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations. "The number and opportunity of allies is at this point countless. It's just a matter of working past our anxiety and fear," Billoo said.

Trump vows to repeal Obamacare and to undo trade agreements and to impose tariffs on imports.

However, trading partners will then slap tariffs on American made goods. "We'd be negatively impacting the jobs, the lives and livelihoods of 45 million Americans and their families and forgetting that jobs tied to trade pay 18 percent more on average than those jobs that don't," Silicon Valley Leadership Group CEO Carl Guardino said.

In his victory speech, the new president also vowed massive spending on road, bridge and highway infrastructure. But he also wants to cut taxes. That could lead to deficit spending and higher national debt.
