SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Federal investigators are looking into whether Graco dragged its heels in reporting a defect in its child car seats. Graco recalled more than 6,000,000 seats this year because the buckles could get stuck during an emergency.

A manufacturer has five days to notify regulators of a safety defect.

The New York Times reports Graco was aware of complaints about the buckles as far back as 2009.

If Graco delayed reporting the issue, the company could be fined up to $35 million.
