SAN LEANDRO, Calif. -- Fire crews are on the scene of a gas leak in San Leandro Thursday afternoon, a fire dispatcher said.

The gas leak was reported at 3:36 p.m. in the 800 block of Alvarado Street, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said the leak was caused by someone digging in a residential property there.

A PG&E crew was on its way and the gas had not yet been shut off as of about 4:20 p.m., she said.

PG&E asks that anyone digging call 811 to determine the location of gas lines before digging.
