Best catch in NFL history? Reactions to Odell Beckham's spectacular catch

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- The NFL and most of the rest of the sports world are calling it the catch of the year.

It was on the first play of the second quarter Sunday when Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr tried to slow down Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

He succeeded in slowing Beckham down, getting flagged for pass interference, but Carr failed to stop Beckham from making a spectacular grab.

Despite the ball being well over Beckham's head, he manages to dive backwards and grab the ball with his fingertips, bringing it in for a 43-yard touchdown giving the giants the lead.

Sports superstars immediately reacted on Twitter.

Catch of the year? It may even be the greatest catch of all time. The NFL posted a side by side video on its Twitter account showing Beckham's grab side by side with David Tyree's helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII.

While many called Beckham's catch lucky, many others agreed with the comparison.

By Monday morning, the hashtag #thingsodellcouldcatch lit up Twitter. Beckham was photoshopped catching an asteroid about to kill the dinosaurs, saving Mufasa from falling off the cliff in "The Lion King" and even interrupting other iconic sports moments, like Michael Jordan's final shot as a Chicago Bull in 1998.

Beckham's great play was ultimately ruined by Tony Romo and the Cowboys. Romo threw two touchdown passes to Dez Bryant, the winner from 13 yards with 1:01 remaining, lifting the Dallas Cowboys to a comeback 31-28 victory over the New York Giants.

Romo threw for two TDs in the third quarter. But the Giants (3-8), trailing 24-21, staged a 93-yard drive capped by Adrien Robinson's first career TD catch, from 1 yard with 3 minutes left.

Back came Dallas (8-3) on an 80-yard march in which Romo never was pressured. He found Bryant in the back of the end zone to win it, setting up an NFC East showdown with Philadelphia on Thanksgiving Day for first place.
