'Shot him 40 times': Group demands justice for Erik Salgado, man fatally shot by CHP in Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action Integration and Immigrant Rights and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary (BAMN) held a press conference demanding justice for Erik Salgado.

Salgado was shot and killed and his girlfriend was injured Saturday night during an officer-involved shooting in Oakland involving California Highway Patrol officers.
BAMN is calling for the names of the police officers involved to be released.
Hoku Jeffrey, a national organizer with BAMN, said, "Those officers belong in jail right now. We want the names of those officers, we want their personnel files, and we want them out of the force and into prison."
Salgado's step-sister, Amanda Blanco, spoke to ABC7 News saying officers shot her step-brother several times.
"Why not try other methods of getting him off the car if he was such a danger that they had to shoot him 40 times," said Amanda Majail - Blanco.
Family members confirmed Salgado's pregnant girlfriend was a passenger in the vehicle.
"She got shot in the stomach and in the hand. That's why they have her in and out of a coma," said Blanco.
According to the Oakland Police Department, the California Highway Patrol was conducting a criminal investigation in the neighborhood. Salgado's vehicle is believed to be one of several vehicles stolen from a San Leandro dealership.

"I have no idea whether or not it was stolen. If it was then is that the reason why they shot him 40 times? A lot of people stole cars from that San Leandro Dodge dealership," said Blanco.
Community members organized a rally to demand justice for Erick Salgado and an end to police brutality.
"What happened to Erik was no less than a public execution," said Mari Cruz Lopez, with BAMN.
The Oakland Police Department has not released the names of the CHP officers involved in this shooting.
The shooting is now under investigation by the Oakland Police Department, the Alameda County District Attorney and an investigations team with the CHP.
