Emmys 2026 recap: See the winners, emotional tributes and biggest moments

Taylor Swift managed to do the impossible, appear on the Emmys telecast and Monday Night Football at the same time.

Swift made a cameo in a pre-taped skit with Emmys host Mariska Hargitay, who was in character as Capt. Olivia Benson, her character on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," trying to map out the clues as to whether Swift would attend the awards show.

At the same time the skit aired, Swift was at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, watching her husband Travis Kelce play in the Kansas City Chiefs home opener.

Swift was seen sitting at the game with Tom Cruise, who was one of the couple's reported 1,000 guests at their July 3 wedding.

The Emmy for outstanding writing for a comedy series went to "Widow's Bay," beating "Abbott Elementary," "The Chair Company," "The Comeback," "Hacks" and "Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat."

"Widow's Bay" actor Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series.

Rhys, a native of Wales, shouted out his home country in his acceptance speech.

"To the great and good people of Wales ... we are a small but mighty nation," he said.

Also nominated in the category were Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for "Wonder Man," Steve Carell for "Rooster," Jason Segel for "Shrinking" and Martin Short for "Only Murders in the Building."

Sally Field won the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for her performance in "Remarkably Bright Creatures," marking her fourth Emmy win.

"The story of an old woman, a young man and an octopus doesn't come around a lot!" she said in her acceptance speech.

She also gave a shoutout to co-star Lewis Pullman, saying, "I wouldn't be up here if not for the magical talent of Lewis Pullman, who stood next to me the whole time."

Other nominees in the category were Claire Danes for "The Beast in Me," Carey Mulligan for "Beef," Sarah Pidgeon for "Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette" and Sarah Snook for "All Her Fault."
