MILL VALLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- A dog found abandoned in a dumpster behind a Mill Valley Safeway has been adopted by a couple from Saratoga.

The poodle mix was found by a security guard at the Strawberry Village Shopping Center earlier this month. The dog was dirty and in shock.

The Marin Human Society staff used a piece of string cheese to coax the poodle out of a crate he was hiding in.

The Marin Humane Society shared these photos of the poodle mix before and after it was cleaned and went through a haircut.

The dog was given the name Mozzarella because that's the first thing he would eat after being found.

Mozzarella was renamed Ziggy and will join Zelda, another dog who was also abandoned before being rescued by the couple.
