Brussels bombings prompts extra security on BART, public transit
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- As in major cities across the country following the Brussels attack, there is tightened security on all Bay Area mass transit systems.
Extra police visible are patrolling BART, VTA Light Rail stations and on Amtrak. There are also some behind the scenes security measures being taken.

The terror attacks in Brussels triggered heightened security, yet still, some passengers are feeling vulnerable.
"I feel safe in America now. But not if we start letting all the refugees in. I wouldn't feel safe then," said Zachary Payne, a BART passenger.
"I think on any public transportation you feel more vulnerable," said another passenger.

BART spokesperson Jim Allison says they have regular emergency drills. They're in the process of installing more cameras to replace decoys on board.
"We can't go into complete lockdown. We can't have metal detectors for every person who boards, which is more than 400,000 people a day. It's not practical. So, we have to find a different solution," he said.
VTA officials monitor the situation at light rail stations and urging anyone who sees something suspicious to say something.
In a statement, Amtrak says it is "working with state, local and federal law enforcement partners to gather and share intelligence."
While there's no credible threat, the Department of Homeland Security and FBI are working closely with local law enforcement.
