SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The bombings in New York have led to increased security across the country and right here in the Bay Area.

BART stepped up security measures in response to the bombings. It follows certain protocol after incidents like the one over the weekend and that includes reminders and a more visible police presence.

BART increased police patrols and, over the PA, ran its security alerts more frequently. It even tweeted a reminder to passengers that if they see something, say something.

"Just be aware of your surroundings I guess and, if there's anything suspicious, that's what the system is in place. You know, let the authorities know," passenger Usman Kahn said.

The elevated security is the direct result of the bombings in the New York region over the weekend followed by the revelation that other bombs were found, including pipe bombs near a train station in New Jersey.

Despite the news, many passengers didn't seem rattled. "This is how I usually travel when I'm here, so didn't think a thing about it. Usually always take public transportation," passenger Adria Tafoya said.

Muni, meanwhile, says it made no security adjustments. And neither did Caltrain, which says since there's no credible threat to the West Coast, it's relaying on the "high degree of patrols it's had in place for years."

As for BART's heightened level of security, there's no word on how long it will continue.
