Owner of Lefty O'Doul's takes Tenderloin kids to San Francisco Giants game

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- You know the song, "Take me out to the ballgame." Well, on Wednesday a San Francisco restaurant owner took 120 kids out to the ballgame.

They were escorted by SFPD Chief Greg Suhr and welcomed by San Francisco Giants mascot Lou Seal; a total VIP experience.

Kids from San Francisco City Academy in the Tenderloin walked to what was, for many, their first major league game. They were guests of Nick Bovis.

The owner of Lefty O'Doul's bought 175 tickets to treat the kids and teachers. He also provided boxed lunches for all.

"When we were growing up, you always had an uncle or dad who brought you to the game," said Bovis. "So Lefty O'Doul's is the new uncle for these kids," he said.

"I love the Giants and I've been a fan since I was like four," said seventh-grader Titus Moberg.

Bovis first learned about the challenges faced by these kids through ABC7 News reporter Vic Lee's story.

Since then, Bovis has hosted Christmas parties for them, complete with Santa and gifts.

Wednesday was his second time taking the kids to the Giants. Could they be lucky charms? The team ended up completing a three-game sweep by beating the San Diego Padres 13-9.
