Police hope to arrest more Apple store robbery suspects

PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Palo Alto police are hoping that arrests in a brazen heist at the Apple store will lead to more arrests in other Apple store robberies around the Bay area.

Security guards stood in front of its store on University Avenue, taking no chances.

It happened just after 4 a.m. when suspects crashed a rented car through the window, creating a hole big enough for them to crawl through. The SUV that was used to ram the window sat in the police garage. The force of the crash disabled the vehicle.

Police say eight to 10 people began ripping electronics and iPhones from the display tables just like the burglars did during this heist at the San Francisco Apple store earlier this month.

When Palo Alto police responded, they found another car nearby. They also found four of the suspected burglars: Shaquin Ferguson and Erica White and two juveniles.

Since October, there have been numerous heists at Apple stores around the Bay Area. Three in San Francisco, several in Berkeley and a couple on the Peninsula as well one in Corte Madera.

In each case, the robbers ran in, grabbed what they could and ran off.

Sunday's burglary may be linked to the others. "Many of the others that happened in the Bay Area simply have been while the stores are open and they're basically shoplifs," Palo Alto Police Deapartment Lt. Zach Perron said.

Palo Alto police say San Francisco police and other law enforcement agencies have contacted them.

Apple did not respond to our inquiries.
