SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Roadwork along eastbound Interstate 80 in San Francisco has reopened on Monday seven hours ahead of schedule, after a 1.6 mile stretch was closed over the weekend between 17th and Fourth Streets for the major repaving project.
Caltrans crews worked on rehabilitating the freeway and completing repairs on the 4th Street offramp.
"It's one of things we have to deal with it's not fantastic, it's nice things are getting fixed," said driver Chris Hirahara.
Drivers experienced detour delays and traffic back-ups in SoMa as Caltrans continued its pavement resurfacing work on that 1.6 mile Eastbound I-80 through San Francisco, which forced weekend closure on the highway.
There were some traffic back-ups in SOMA but many drivers planned their weekend schedules around the closure.
"It's all over the news I knew about it. I have a commitment, I'm going to the ballet I factored extra time, It's not that bad," said driver Alisa Yee.
"There's still a lot of work to do, we still want to make sure the public and motorists stay out of the area, progress has been made quite well," said Caltrans spokesperson, Lori Shepherd.

The closure did impact some businesses in SOMA because their usual customers were staying away.
Jabriel Isa at Heyma Yemini Coffee Shop on Ninth Street says his usual weekend crowd are no shows, likely due to road work alerts and detours.
Max Freeborn at Mike's Bikes on Howard Street says business is down about 70 percent this weekend, the cycle showroom practically empty.
"On a sunny weekend, it's usually packed and busy. It'll be three of us working nonstop, today it's been nothing," Freeborn said.

Caltrans says so far, no local businesses have reached out.
Caltrans says it is expected to finish the roadwork and reopen by 6 a.m. Monday. Work wrapped up early, by 11p.m. on Sunday night, ahead of schedule.
Westbound lanes could be repaved sometime next fall, the agency has not announced a date.
