Uber announces over 3,000 layoffs amid $10B commitment to robotaxi partnerships

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Uber is laying off 10% of its workforce, the San Francisco-based company announced Wednesday morning.

The cuts amount to roughly 3,300 salaried jobs -- not independent contractor drivers' jobs.

It's unclear how many layoffs will be of positions in the Bay Area.

This round of layoffs is Uber's largest since the pandemic.

The company says it's restructuring to consolidate management and cut costs.

At the same time, Uber is committing $10 billion to robotaxi partnerships in the coming years.

This layoff ranks as the 10th-largest reported -- in terms of headcount -- this year.
