VICTORIA, Texas (KGO) -- A man from Victoria, Texas has landed himself in the record books for what he landed in his boat last month.



Joey Beaver, 28, caught a 38.75-pound red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico on June 1. Texas Parks and Wildlife officials verified that his catch broke the record for red snapper caught in the Gulf and awarded him a certificate confirming that the fish was a record 40-inches long.



Beaver said he caught the snapper about five miles offshore near Port O'Connor, between Corpus Christi and Galveston.
