2 people shot at Richmond strip mall

RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- Tuesday night there were terrifying moments outside a popular local strip mall in the East Bay where two people were shot, one critically. Police are searching for the suspects.

The incident happened hear the Richmond Target, just off of I-80 and McDonald Avenue. Across the parking lot is the shopping center where the shooting happened, just before 6 p.m. and one very shocked store clerk who saw it happen.

That witness told ABC7 News, "I was staring out the door. I didn't really know what to do because that's the first time I ever seen one get shot, so I was just freaked out. Like, I didn't know what to do after that."

This store clerk says she stood at the counter watched it happen in the parking lot of the Target shopping center in Richmond. She saw two men yelling at some others in a silver car.

The witness said, "All I heard is basically like, "No not you, the guy in the back. And they kept yelling back and forth, and then the next thing I heard was two gunshots."

She says both men fell on the ground. The car sped off and the victims quickly got up and drove away in their own car.

"Two victims arrived at a local hospital suffering from gunshot wounds," said Richmond Police Lt. Louie Tirona.

Police say a teenager was in critical condition and 23-year-old man was in serious condition.

"We rarely ever have any kind of serious problems here. In fact, this is the first serious crime I can recall in the existence of this particular shopping center," said Tirona.

Two slugs were found at the scene including one lodged in a customer's car. Police say the shooting was at close range and most of the evidence markers signify drops of blood at the scene. Police are looking for at least two suspects, but they believe surveillance video still being reviewed will give them a better description.
