SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A hero's ceremony for first responders was held in the South Bay on Sunday.

Special pregame festivities for First Responders Appreciation Day, presented by Alliance Credit Union, took place before the San Jose Giants game, the San Francisco Giants' minor league team.

Vehicles from first responders lined up on the field as the crowd thanked them for their service in the community.

Also, fallen San Jose police Officer Michael Johnson was honored. His family received the Hometown Hero Award and his father, Dan, got to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The 38-year-old, who was a 14-year veteran of the force, was killed in the line of duty on March 24.

First responders received free tickets to Sunday's game for them and their family.
