HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- A woman was fatally shot by officers near the CSU East Bay campus in Hayward on Tuesday. Two detectives were hurt, and one man is still on the loose.
Hayward police say Fremont police detectives stopped a stolen vehicle that was wanted in connection with multiple armed robberies in Fremont and the Bay Area.
It happened at the City View apartment complex on Carlos Bee Boulevard.
Police says the suspects vehicle with four people inside rammed the detective's vehicle injuring two detectives. Police say those detectives fired at the suspect vehicle hitting a female passenger.
"As they get out to contact the vehicle the driver of the car drives off and rams a couple of police vehicles causing the officers to fire at the vehicle and the vehicle's driver. Two officers are injured in that," said Sgt. Ryan Cantrell, with the Hayward Police Department.
The vehicle took off and ended up crashing near Campus Drive and Oakes Drive. One suspect got out and ran off a second female and another male occupant were arrested. The female who was shot by detectives was taken to the hospital, where she ended up dying from her injuries.
A SWAT team searched the area but couldn't find the remaining suspect. Students at a nearby campus housing complexes were told to shelter-in-place.
