MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (KGO) -- Google's daily doodle has a tie to a UC Berkeley activist Monday.

The doodle was in honor of what would have been Ed Roberts' 78th birthday. Roberts was the first student with severe disabilities to attend UC Berkeley.

He became the director of the California Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in 1976, and co-founded the World Institute on Disability in 1983.

Roberts is known as the father of the independent living movement.
