SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) -- A puppy named after the ogre princess in "Shrek" is getting a second chance.

Princess Fiona has become a social media sensation for the Sonoma Humane Society. The tiny American bulldog has a rare cleft lip and cleft palate.

Her breeder said she wasn't "show quality" and asked the vet to euthanize her. Fiona's vet didn't feel good about that and reached out to the Humane Society.

The now 7- week-old puppy has been under the care of six foster families and Humane Society staff ever since and is doing well.

Fiona should be ready for surgery in just over a month and she will eventually be available for adoption.
