The Oakland Athletics added some experience to their bullpen Wednesday, agreeing to terms on a one-year deal with left-hander Scott Alexander.
To clear room on the 40-man roster, the A's placed fellow southpaw Ken Waldichuk on the 60-day injured list with a strained left elbow.
Alexander, 34, will continue his run in the Bay Area after pitching the last two seasons with the San Francisco Giants. He was 7-3 last season with a 4.66 ERA in 55 appearances (eight starts) and had one save.
Alexander is 19-12 with a 3.29 ERA and 10 saves over 283 appearances (13 starts) in nine seasons for the Kansas City Royals (2015-17), Los Angeles Dodgers (2018-21) and Giants.
Waldichuk, 26, completed his official rookie season in 2023, going 4-9 with a 5.36 ERA in 35 games (22 starts). His 132 strikeouts were fifth most by an A's rookie. He was 2-2 with a 4.93 ERA in seven starts in 2022.
Following last season, Waldichuk underwent an elbow procedure Oct. 17 to reduce tendonitis and received a PRP injection to his flexor tendon on Oct. 24.
