Former Cal sprinter could become first U.S. female bobsled champ

BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) -- A former Cal sprinter could soon be the world's first female champion in a sport dominated by men.

Cherelle Garrett and her pilot Elana Meyers Taylor have a comfortable lead after two heats Thursday in the Bobsled World Championships.

They broke the course record Wednesday, but have two more heats Saturday.

Garrett is from Hayward.

On Saturday, her team has a shot at becoming the first U.S. women's team to win a world title.
