Warriors' Damian Jones to have surgery on pec, likely out for season
Golden State Warriors center Damian Jones will undergo surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle and will likely miss the rest of the regular season, league sources told ESPN.
The Warriors announced the injury, which Jones suffered in Saturday night's loss to Detroit, on Sunday.
Jones will meet with a specialist in Chicago this week prior to the procedure. A timetable on a possible return to the court -- whether sometime later in the playoffs, or in the offseason -- is expected to be clearer after the procedure.
Golden State coach Steve Kerr told reporters Sunday that Jones would be "out for a long time," though he did not publicly confirm the surgery.
"It is going to be a matter of months," Kerr said. "So it is a tough blow for him. He's been playing so much and progressing and learning so much and we have been excited about his growth. It's a big setback for him and for us.
"We are going to bring Marcus Derrickson up for the rest of the trip. And we will check on our options."
Kerr also said All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins was "making strides" in practice and would "fully" participate in the Warriors' upcoming practices. Cousins is recovering from an Achilles injury.
Jones tore his right pectoral muscle in June 2016 coming out of Vanderbilt and missed six months. He has averaged 5.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 17 minutes per game this season.
