Every year the country pauses for what has become a national holiday for a championship game.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- As the big game approaches, diehard fans are focused on their teams, their favorite players, maybe even a few friendly wagers. In half a century, the Super Bowl has transcended from a mere championship game to a national holiday. ABC7 News takes a look at this day and its meaning from a broader perspective.
