SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Police Department's bomb squad determined a suspicious package in the city's Inner Richmond neighborhood Monday afternoon was not a threat, a police spokeswoman said.

The package was reported at about 3:15 p.m. when someone found a box, about 20 inches wide and 20 inches high, on the sidewalk near the intersection of Geary and Arguello boulevards, San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said.

Shortly before 5 p.m., San Francisco police Sgt. Monica MacDonald said the box was determined to be empty.
