Beginning Sunday, air travelers in the U.S. without a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport, are subject to a new fee.
The impending deadline has led to hours-long lines and limited appointments at DMVs.
While there will be some flexibility for a period of time for those flying with a non-compliant ID, TSA spokesperson Lorie Dankers says those without a Real ID will receive additional screening and be delayed at the checkpoint.
DMV's across the country are packed right now with people lining up to get their REAL ID.
As of May 7, 2025, anyone 18 or older will need to present either a passport or a REAL ID to fly domestically and get in a federal building.
Do you have your REAL ID, yet? If you're planning to fly around the country next year, you have about a year to get it.
