Rain slows down traffic in Bay Area

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) -- The Bay Area hasn't yet seen the flash floods and mudslides associated with heavy storms because the rain we've been getting has been light and steady, allowing the ground to slowly soak it up.

The evening rush hour on Highway 101 Thursday was mostly accident free. The gridlock kept speeds down and drivers like Danielle Castleberry were taking extra precautions.

"I'm in my bug and the tires are bald so it's pretty interesting," Castleberry said.

The storm was living up to its one rating on the ABC7 Storm Impact Scale. There were a lot of light, scattered showers that soaked the ground.

It also reminded Santa Rosa resident Arturo Commacho it was time to buy a rain coat. He never had to wear one earlier since it hasn't rained much in the past few years.

The REI store in Santa Rosa says it's been selling plenty of rain gear all day.

Meanwhile, business in this El Nino season hasn't been quite as good for Jeff Copeland's car wash in Novato. Despite the slowdown he was still open during the storm and says he'll stay open rain or shine.
