LOS ANGELES -- USC football player Josh Shaw, who made headlines this week for lying about how he injured his ankles, is being investigated in a possible domestic violence incident.

Shaw was in hot water after he claimed that he injured his ankles rescuing his nephew in a swimming pool. USC received phone calls disputing his story.

On Wednesday, Shaw admitted that he fabricated the story, saying he injured himself during a fall. The senior cornerback and team captain was suspended indefinitely from all team activities.

Shaw's injuries apparently happened at an off-campus apartment complex where his girlfriend lives. According to the LAPD, officers responded to a call about a woman screaming at an apartment on the 500 block of North Figueroa. When officers entered the residence, they noticed that a back window had been pried open. Witnesses told police they saw "a black male with dreadlocks" leaving the apartment balcony.

The LAPD says they would like to interview Shaw for possible domestic violence. However, LAPD Capt. John McMahon told the Los Angeles Times that Shaw's girlfriend did not indicate that she was a victim of domestic violence.

Shaw's attorney, Donald Etra, has advised Shaw not to interview with the police anymore about the case, saying his client has spoken to the LAPD twice and "it is now time to move on."
