Though inequality remains in the workplace, women have made big strides in recent decades and some fields are treating their female employees much more fairly than others.

Job search site CareerCast put together a list of the top 11 job positions that defy gender conventions of the workplace. The jobs were chosen based on where the jobs fields that are becoming increasingly dominated by women and offer growth potential, and where the wage gap tightens closer to match their male counterparts.

Pooling data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, CareerCast reports that nearly 58 percent of all advertising and promotions managers are women -- and also happens to be one of the highest paying careers. CareerCast also listed 79 percent of all event planners are women, 63 percent education administrators are women, 61 percent market research analysts are women.

"The variety of professions that welcome women has greatly expanded as women are becoming more fearless and demanding in their career planning and options," said Ruth Goran, CEO of GlassCeiling.com.
