A familiar face takes the top spot in Forbes' list of the Top 400 Wealthiest Americans.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates leads the list for the 21st year in a row. Thanks to his net worth of $81 billion. He's followed by Warren Buffet and Oracle founder Larry Ellison comes in third.

The Bay Area is well represented on the list with 13 percent of the richest 400 living here. Nearly 5 percent of those on the list live in San Francisco. That beats out the three percent who live in Los Angeles.

It's a possible indication that it may be more lucrative to get into the tech industry than the film business.

Mark Zuckerberg is No. 11 on the list with a net worth of $34.8 billion.
