Verizon took top honors in a recent nationwide survey of wireless networks.

Root Metrics ranked cellphone carriers based on reliability, speed, call, and data performance.

Verizon finished slightly ahead of AT&T.

Both companies came in well ahead of third-ranked T-Mobile and fourth-ranked Sprint.

Root Metrics sent researchers around the country to test how well the different networks performed. They took more than 5.5 million samples.
