The nation's second largest movie chain is offering a subscription-type service to try to fill seats in the theater.

AMC announced it is teaming up with MoviePass. The subscription costs $35 a month for movies in standard format and $45 a month to see movies in 3D and IMAX.

A monthly subscription would be enough to see a movie a day.

The experiment will be tried in Denver and Boston before being expanded into other cities.

MoviePass debuted in San Francisco in 2011, but the debut was less than successful as theaters saw it as a threat trying to work around them.
