SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Editors with Oxford Dictionaries have chosen the 2014 International Word of the Year.

The word is "vape."

It can be used as either a noun meaning "an electronic cigarette or similar device" or a verb in which one would "inhale and exhale the vapor produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device."

Oxford editors say the use of the word vape has more than doubled this year compared to 2013, as the popularity of e-cigarettes continues to grow.

In addition to vape, "bae" made this year's shortlist. It's a "term of endearment for one's romantic partner." It is short for baby or babe.

Last year's Word of the Year was "selfie" beat out "twerk."
