SoCal nanny speaks out, says her life is 'destroyed'
UPLAND, Calif. -- The nanny who refused to leave the Upland home of the family she worked for is speaking out to Eyewitness News.
"She's vilified me, and really destroyed my life. It'll be difficult for me to ever rent a place now that she's done this to me," Diane Stretton said of family matriarch Marcella Bracamonte.
Stretton did not want to show her face in the sit-down interview. She said she left the Bracamontes' home last Thursday after being served with an eviction notice and spent a few nights parked at the Upland Police Department parking lot.
The Bracamontes say they hired Stretton in March to help take care of their three kids and do some housework in exchange for room and board. Now, the family says Stretton refused to do the work, and they want her out permanently.
"I made a mistake, but how come I can't kick somebody out of my house? That's the message I really want America to hear," Marcella Bracamonte said.
Stretton says on June 4, the Bracamontes served her with a 30-day notice to leave. She says all she wants is to go back to the house to pick up her belongings. According to the conditions of the letter, she has until July 4.
Stretton says she'll go back to get her belongings under her own conditions.
"What I'd like to do is just have a police officer there and have them vacate, have the police officer see that I am only taking stuff from my room," Stretton said.
The Bracamontes say they are concerned that if they allow Stretton back to get her belongings, she won't leave. Marcella Bracamonte says that would start another fight to kick her out.
"I always told myself that I would fight if anyone ever tried to victimize me. And this lady has tried to victimize not just me, but my whole family. And I will fight. And you're not going to take us down," she said.
The Bracamontes say they will be out of town this Fourth of July weekend for a family event, but they will have family and friends to house sit and keep an eye on their property.
