WASHINGTON -- The FBI and Secret Service officials say thieves are essentially breaking into banks without ever entering a building. They are warning businesses to anticipate being hacked and to have a plan.

Federal officials say more than 500 million financial records have been stolen in the past year, and according to investigators, 50 percent of all adults in the U.S. have had their personal data exposed in the past year.

Nearly 80-percent of hacking victims in the business community didn't even realize they'd been hacked until they were notified by investigators, customers or vendors.
