Michael Joseph jokingly took his girlfriend Ann to McDonald's at the end of their first date two years ago. So when Michael knew he wanted to propose, he thought it'd be a fun idea to propose at the very same McDonald's.

"She joked for months about how 10 years down the road I would probably propose to her in a chicken nugget box so I thought she would love when I surprised her this way," Michael said on YouTube.

In the video, the couple receives their food in the McDonald's drive-thru, when Michael then asks Ann to open the chicken sandwich and make sure that there's no mayonnaise. Ann looks confused but eventually opens up the box to see a chicken sandwich with an engagement ring resting on top.

"Will you marry me?" Michael asks as Ann is still stunned by the gesture. "You're not serious" Ann says as Michael anxiously awaits a reply. Ann then shifts from laughter to crying, still trying to figure out if the proposal was a joke.

Michael uploaded video of the proposal to YouTube on June 2 where it quickly went viral, gaining over 500,000 views. Many criticized the proposal while others saying it was a cute gesture.

"Men, this is NOT how you do it!" wrote one YouTube user.

"That's awesome! I like [you] did it different," wrote another.

Ann ended up rejecting the proposal, but the couple is still happily together.

"I didn't know what to expect, but we're still together and I understand her frustration," Michael told ABC. "I will surprise her in a more appropriate environment in the future."
