SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow revealed Tuesday that he's suffering from a degenerative muscle disease called inclusion-body myositis, or IBM.

The 62-year-old former pitcher has kept his condition a secret since his diagnosis eight years ago.

IBM causes progressive weakness in the muscles of the wrist and fingers, thighs, and feet. There is no cure and there is no solid theory for what causes it, but it isn't life-threatening.

Krukow now wears braces on his legs for support and carries a walking stick for balance.
