SAN FRANCISCO -- One person has died and another has been rescued after becoming stranded on the rocks near Lands End in San Francisco this afternoon, a fire spokeswoman said.

A woman was pulled out of the water and was pronounced dead at the scene while the second victim, a 27-year-old man, was pulled to safety from some rocks, according to San Francisco Fire Department Mindy Talmadge.

Fire crews responded around 12:10 p.m. to reports of two people stuck on rocks over a cliff in the area of El Camino Del Mar and 32nd Avenue, Talmadge said. The woman reportedly fell some 400-feet to her death.

Fire department rescue swimmers and some boat crews responded to the scene and both the U.S. Coast Guard and National Parks Service were notified.
