7 On Your Side helps family recover gym membership

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- One family bought memberships two decades ago for mom, dad and the kids. When the fitness chain disappeared they thought their big investment went with it, but they were wrong.

The memberships cost about $4,000 up front, then only $29 per year for life.

One of the family members went to Fitness USA, but it had suddenly shut down

So, Tony Roca joined 24 Hour Fitness and then during a workout one day, he noticed some familiar faces. They were members from the former Fitness USA. It turns out the old gym had changed hands. First Bally's bought it. Then, Bally's went bankrupt and 24 Hour Fitness took over.

The good news was 24 Hour Fitness was still honoring those old lifetime memberships.

However, the Rocas were lost in the shuffle and 24 Hour Fitness had no record of their memberships.

Roca contacted 7 On Your Side and we found out Bally's still had the Roca family records. Bally's turned them over to 24-Hour Fitness, which agreed to honor their lifetime memberships after all.

"And here we are very pleased and very happy to say if you have a problem call 7 On Your Side,"

24 hour fitness declined to provide an official statement, telling saying the happy ending says it all.
