Locating the scooter was great news for the San Francisco chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which lost even more than that during the weekend break-in. Cops in the Tenderloin District helped locate the stolen scooter and arrest two suspects. Police are still searching for a third suspect.
The San Francisco Giants are in Milwaukee but word traveled fast, with Hunter Pence retweeting ABC7's tweet moments after we learned the news.
Just moments after San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee announced he was replacing iPads stolen from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he received and relayed news that San Francisco police had recovered the stolen scooter.
"Hunter Pence, Hunter Pence, yes!" said Lee. "Thank him and his donation."
And thank SFPD. Officers worked closely with Make-A-Wish, which had surveillance video.
"They were able to identify them through the video and then they put out a bulletin to the rest of the San Francisco Police Department," said SFPD spokesperson Giselle Talkoff.
It was the Tenderloin Foot Patrol Officers who ultimately recognized and arrested 37-year-old Judd Janke and 26-year-old Nicholas Tiller. Both are facing felony and misdemeanor charges.
A search warrant executed on 4th Street turned up the scooter and other stolen property.
Police say they're still searching for a third suspect.
"We're actually really excited that we're able to get the scooter back and that it's able to go and function for the Make-A-Wish Foundation since it's a really important group," said Talkoff.
The scooter was auctioned for $40,000 and was signed by Pence with the message, "To Michelle, Much Love."
In a statement the SF Giants said, "We are delighted that it has been found and will be returned to its rightful owner."
While Hunter Pence retweeted the news -- having earlier tweeted: "I can't believe it! It's scooter-gate all over again #findhuntersscotterx2."
