Caltrans launches program aimed to make I-80 safer
Caltrans has launched a project called I-80 SMART Corridor hoping to make the freeway a safer commute.

EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- More than a quarter million cars drive a stretch of Interstate 80 every day and soon, this commute could get smarter.

By smarter, Caltrans means faster and safer. At least, that's the goal of a project called the "I-80 SMART Corridor."

It's going into effect gradually on I-80 between the Carquinez Bridge and the Bay Bridge.
