Black Lives Matter protesters shut down a major airport in London overnight by taking over its runway.

LONDON (KGO) -- Black Lives Matter protesters shut down a major airport in London overnight by taking over its runway.

Nine people chained themselves to the pavement at London City Airport for hours.

The group said they wanted to highlight how air pollution around the airport is hurting neighbors, who are predominantly minority and poor.

Police arrested the protesters and cleared the runway.

London City Airport is used for short-haul flights to other European destinations.
