Strong voter turnout expected in Santa Clara County

Vote counting has been going on since Monday at the Santa Clara County registrar of voters. They have a great head start because 345,000 ballots have already been turned in, that's almost 40 percent of all registered voters.

There are 836 polling places; part of the reason Santa Clara County has been notoriously slow when it collection office from the precincts. But they're hopeful they'll have a big chunk of ballots tallied because of early voting and vote by mail.

"My dream is 100 percent turnout. We are estimating maybe 80-85 percent turnout, but maybe we can reach record numbers," said Shannon Bushey, Santa Clara County registrar of voters.

Expect lines everywhere today; the lines were long yesterday as well. People need time to vote because this is the longest ballot in Santa Clara County history with 129 contests countywide.
