REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- The community held a memorial service to honor a Redwood City police officer who died of natural causes while on duty.

Fifty-nine-year-old Officer Gerardo Silva passed away a week and a half ago after fellow officers found him unconscious and not breathing inside the police station. He had been with the department for 18 years.

Tuesday's service began at 10 a.m. at the Fox Theatre in Redwood City.

Friends say his dedication to law enforcement and service to his community will never be forgotten.
