The one block long street was clogged by police vehicles as officers began to canvass the neighborhood, seeking witnesses or any other information that could help piece together what had precipitated what they believe is an attempted murder-suicide.

Early on, police detained and handcuffed several adults, who live at a house on Creston Lane. However, about an hour later, officers removed the handcuffs as they determined the dead man was the sole suspect and that there were no other victims.

Police have not identified the two adults. Their ages and city of residence also are unknown. Police spokesman Sgt. Enrique Garcia said the man and woman knew each other, but their relationship, if any, has not been determined.

"He shot the female victim and then shot himself, committed suicide. Both victims are adults," said Sgt. Enrique Garcia witht he San Jose Police Department.
