PALO ALTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Apple CEO Tim Cook welcomed customers who were purchasing the iPhone X at the Apple store in Palo Alto on University Avenue Friday morning.

Kathy Jen of Sunnyvale was third in line at the store, but it was her picture with Cook that was the real prize.

"On top of my bucket list was to get a selfie and meet Tim Cook. So it was well worth the two and a half day wait," said Jen.

Cook opened up the doors and welcomed everyone inside. Online orders and the fact iPhones have been around for a while have shortened the lines compared to years past. But the iPhone X has brought back some of the glamour. Apple says it's the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone.

The iPhone X is the most expensive iPhone in history, starting at $999.

"It's got no home button so that's going to take me a few days to figure it out," said Alex Chang, Redwood City resident.

The iPhone X has a super retina display, facial-recognition skills and is water and dust resistant. David Casarez of Mountain View was the first in line Tuesday night.

"It was everything I imagined it to be it was the perfect phone. I love it. I love it," said Casarez.

Casarez says someone offered him $5,000 to give up his seat. Casarez wasn't sure if it was a serious offer, but either way, he was going to be the first person to get his hands on the iPhone X.

"To be able to shake Tim Cook's hand; to be able to open up the doors; to opening up the iPhone in an Apple store. You can't beat that," said Casarez.

If you don't want to come into the store, you can always buy online. As of 11 a.m. Friday, the Apple website says the iPhone X will ship in 3-to-4 weeks.
