1. Peanut Crowned 'World's Ugliest Dog'
With a face only a mother could love, a 2-year-old mutt named Peanut was crowned "World's Ugliest Dog." The pup's serious grimace comes from abuse he suffered as a puppy when he was burned across his body.
His new owner, Holly Chandler, hopes to Peanut can help raise awareness about animal abuse.
"I think he's just got an amazing strong spirit," she told ABC News.
2. Katie Couric and Jill Duggar Tie the Knot -- Not to Each Other
Wedding bells chimed this weekend with both Katie Couric and Jill Duggar walking down the aisle this weekend. Couric married John Molner in a private ceremony in the Hamptons after two years of dating.
Couric, 57, tweeted that she was "so excited to make my debut as Mrs. John Molner."
Jill Duggar, star of TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" was married to fianc Derick Dillard in front of 1,000 family members and friends in a ceremony in Springdale, Ark., on Saturday.
"I think it'll probably be a Duggar-sized wedding with lots of friends and lots of family, and everything centered on God," Duggar told ABC News before the wedding.
3. Mom Delivers Baby While Having Open-Heart Surgery
A new mom is counting her blessings after giving birth to her "miracle baby" while suffering from a deadly heart condition. During her 36th week of pregnancy, Edita Tracey suffered from a potentially catastrophic condition called aortic dissection, meaning her aortic artery near her heart was rupturing. To save Tracey and her baby, doctors delivered her daughter via emergency c-section in just 30 sections.
Tracey then underwent open heart surgery during a nine-hour operation to repair the aorta. Both mother and daughter are now home doing well.
4. Nail-Biting Moments From the World Cup
While anxiously waiting for Sunday's match between the U.S. and Portugal, there were plenty of other exciting games for World Cup fans to enjoy this weekend.
On Saturday, Germany and Ghana drew at 2-2, with all the goals being scored during a pulse-pounding 20-minute period. Earlier in the day, soccer powerhouse Argentina was just barely able to win with a single goal against Iran.
Fingers crossed the U.S. game isn't as much of a nail-biter as these two.
5. Padres Pitcher Wears Hat to Protect Against Brain Injury
Alex Torres, pitcher for the San Diego Padres, became the first player to wear a new baseball cap designed to protect pitchers from dangerous line drives. The hat looks a bit like an overstuffed baseball cap, but Torres said he is concerned about safety, not looks.
"It could save our lives if someone hits a ball to your head," Torres told MLB.com. "I get it for free, so I'm just gonna use it to see how it feels."
