Car crashes into power pole in Castro Valley, knocks out power for thousands

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. -- A car that crashed into a power pole in Castro Valley this afternoon has knocked out power to more than 1,400 PG&E customers and blocked a roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol and PG&E.

The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Chabot Road and Christensen Lane, near Castro Valley Community Park, the CHP is reporting.

The crash caused two power poles and power lines to fall across the roadway, according to the CHP. Lake Chabot Road is closed in both directions around the scene of the crash.

No injuries were reported.

The incident has left 1,428 PG&E customers without power, according to the utility.

Utility personnel estimated that power would be restored by 4:15 p.m.
